Today, the Alliance for Peace, Integration and Climate Action (APICA) launched a capacity-building seminar under the theme “Strengthening National Narratives for Sustainable Development”, focusing on the localization and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Somaliland.

The training took place at the Ministry of Information, Culture and National Guidance in Hargeisa and brought together key stakeholders, including media professionals, civil society actors, and government representatives.

During the opening session, Mohamed Abdi Idiris, the Program Coordination Officer at APICA, emphasized the importance of promoting national narratives that align with the SDGs. He highlighted that effective communication strategies rooted in culture and identity are essential in mobilizing communities towards inclusive, equitable, and sustainable development.

“This training is not just about learning the SDGs; it is about shaping a national narrative that reflects our shared values, aspirations, and commitment to progress,” he stated.

The training covered:

Introduction to the 2030 Agenda and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals

The role of information and culture in shaping public engagement with development

Strategies for integrating local narratives into national development frameworks

Media’s responsibility in fostering awareness, inclusion, and accountability

The seminar concluded with interactive group work where participants developed communication models tailored to Somaliland’s social and cultural context.

This initiative is part of APICA’s broader mission to promote peacebuilding, integration, and climate-conscious development through community engagement, policy dialogue, and capacity development.
